''James Linwood Dawson,'' legally changed to J Lin Dawson in 1993, (born June 24, 1959 in Norfolk, Virginia) serves as the Managing Director of The Lin Dawson Organization, LLC. The Lin Dawson Organization is a comprehensive organizational development-consulting firm that is balanced by broad academic backgrounds, practical management, and executive level applications. His primary consultations with corporations and universities are in the areas of organizational design and development, executive coaching, team-building, talent development, and leadership diversity.
Lin grew up in Kinston, NC. After graduating from Kinston High School (1977), he accepted a football scholarship from NC State University. In 1981, he was drafted by the New England Patriots Football Club, Inc. (NFL) where he played ten years. As the starting tight-end, he was an integral part of the AFC Championship and Super Bowl XX team. During his tenure with the Patriots, he served as team chaplain for six years and team representative for four years. He was named as a member of the New England Patriots ‘Team of the Decade-1980’s.’
After retiring from the NFL in 1991, Dawson has held significant roles in higher education and business settings where he has been a professional athlete, entrepreneur, graduate school professor, counselor, consultant, director, athletic administrator, program designer, and senior officer.
Dawson holds an MBA with a specialization in human resource management and knowledge/learning management. He is a PhD candidate in Management- Organizational Change and Leadership.

He has received numerous awards and accommodations from The White House, the Anti-Defamation League, National Football League, NCAA Division IA Athletic Directors Association, The Peter F. Drucker Foundation, The Boston Herald American, and the National Consortium for Academics and Sports. He is a member of the African American Ethic Sports Hall of Fame and an Inaugural member of the Kinston-Lenoir County Sports Hall of Fame.
In addition, he travels to Zimbabwe and Kenya where he preaches and conducts pastor leadership seminars, business workshops, conflict resolutions trainings, and youth conferences.
He and his wife, Margo (28 years), have two young adults and one child in high school.
